Play for Japan USA
On March 11, 2011, a magnitude 9.0 earthquake and subsequent tsunami's hit the northeastern part of Japan. The massive tsunami's engulfed many houses, buildings, schools and people, claiming more than 10,000 lives and leaving more than 15,000 missing and 170,000 forced to live in shelters with scarce supplies of food, water and basic necessities. The tremendous aftermath of the disaster requires a long-term recovery.
Play for Japan USA organizes events to raise money and awareness for the Japanese disaster relief efforts. This benefit concert project was born out of the committee members’ sincere wish to help those people in the devastated area, as well as all those in Japan immediately impacted by the tragedy.
Ms.Meyers will perform at this special Benefit Concert on April 29, 2011 at the Woodside Performing Arts Center in California. Please visit the website for more information.
Ms.Meyers helped raise over $88,000 for the Japan Earthquake Fund at the Japan Society in New York City when she performed at a special benefit on April 9, 2011 with Ryuichi Sakamoto, piano.
Anne Akiko Meyers and Wendy Chen, piano, raised $60,000 on April 29th, 2011, for Play For Japan.
