From intimate recitals to performing in front of 750,000 people in Australia’s Sydney Harbour, Anne Akiko Meyers’ concerts are a feast for the senses. Performing the Sibelius Concerto, the Dayton Daily News raved, “Meyers was like an enchantress. And her violin seemed to conjure the forces of nature. Fire, water, wind and even stillness all were within the command of her bow”.
After performing John Corigliano’s Oscar winning soundtrack to the film, “The Red Violin,” The Contra-Costa wrote, “The piece starts in a Viennese mood, with sprightly percussion and a Mahler-like two-note theme. Abruptly, the flavor turns gypsy-Hungarian, with the sort of dissonant asymmetries one hears in Bartok. Meyers has an amazing technique and can coax gypsy cries and sobs at any speed from her 1730 Stradivarius.”
Anne performs over 50 dates a year in the United States, Europe, and Asia. As one fan wrote after a concert, “I was amazed – thankfully you couldn’t see a 66 year old man crying in the back of the hall. Absolutely beautiful.”
